Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great. – Mark Twain
I often find myself navigating through the perilous sea that we know as “The Wedding Photography Business”. I once had a good friend that was a model in NYC that was one of the very first people that allowed me to shoot with her. I was excited because I had never shot a “real live human being” before, and she had experience which I knew would make things run smoother.
Many months later as she went deeper into the fashion industry and I eventually found my way shooting weddings and new families, I notice her FB comments getting more and more cynical, negative, and eventually venomous.
“Good one Karlo, another shoot of babies and weddings, real edgy….” - she would comment on my newly uploaded photos.
“That would be a good image if it wasn’t for that stupid logo” – another
I eventually decided to drop her. From my friend’s list, my circle, my life. Why? Cause she wasn’t worth the pain and aggravation. I sent her a message stating simply :
“I surround myself with positive people that help and support me in getting where I want to be. Take care”.
That was it. And life has been easier since.

It’s hard enough in the Wedding Photography Business without so called friends being negative like that.
not to mention – it’s hard to market your work when some tool is slaggin it publicly. Kinda kills the whole facebook marketing thing…
