After Monday’s announcement, I poo pooed the new iPhone, saying that the new hardware was not really all that impressive. Sure, it has the best pixel density of any phone (or even, I suspect, any device out there), and a new front facing camera, but this version of the phone is an iteration, not a revolution.
And while I’m still not going to say that this version is revolutionary, Apple has posted some SOOC shots from the new iPhone. And they look really good. Good dynamic range, good clarity… all around very sharp looking photos.
They’re not as clear as you might get with, say, a DSLR, but for a cell phone camera, the images are really really nice. Go take a look. To see the image at full size, simply click on a thumbnail, wait for it to load, then click again on the picture to zoom in to 100%.

Um, it is a revolution. Video calling with FaceTalk is totally revolutionary. That alone is worth upgrading for $199
It is only a revolution if people use it in great numbers. The Nokia N95 has had a front facing camera for years, and I don’t see people marching in the streets.
The iPhone has numbers behind it, but will people be motivated to do video phone calls? This is not a new technology. It’s been around for years. But perhaps with the weight of Apple’s cool behind it, this will be what pushes the vidphone over the top.
