I’m the first to admit that I’m not much of a fashionista photographer. But I had an Abie Strap on my camera (the one on the left below) for about 5 minutes and someone said to me.
Oh… nice camera strap!
Abie Straps is run by DWF Pro member Ellen LeRoy and I’ve got to say I’m more impressed. I’m a tall man and I’ve always been forced to use my “stock” straps at full extension to get them close to where I wanted them on my hip. Boy oh boy was I happy when I discovered that the Ellen’s straps came much longer. In fact, they were so long that I need to trim and remelt the edges but that is so much better than having a strap that is just a bit too short.
I’ve put my Abie Strap thru it’s paces at two weddings now and it does a great job of staying on my shoulder. No slipping off of my suit and I found it to be very comfortable comfortable. The edges of the strap are soft as opposed to stock camera straps which are a bit abrasive.
I also found the quick release to be very useful when backpacking my gear and the leather and construction of the strap is top notch. My advice is to put the Abie Strap on your want list and hope that someone buys one for you soon. Well done…!

Nothing new here.
$150 BUCKS FOR A CAMERA STRAP??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Give me a break!
I bought a fender strap for $15 that looked nicer than this. Now I use a strap with metal insert in it. Beautiful, comfortable, cost me $19.00 and long enough to criss-sross the camera (I am 6’3″).
And when photographers are going to learn to criss-cross their camera instead of carrying it on one shoulder and walking awkwardly so it does not slide? Eh?
The strap I mentioned above is called Pacsafe. No, it is not cute with different colors (thank God I am out of high school) but it does a great job.
These are nice, but the designs did not thrill me. I bought custom straps from http://www.rileygdesignworks.com that I love.
You had me until I saw the price tag. Then I laughed so hard I passed out for 4 minutes.
I am a very utilitarian kind of guy; I subscribe to the “form follows function” lifestyle for the most part… but these straps have me drooling!! I want four, no wait, five of them – they are great looking and after visiting their website it sounds like they are actually well designed, well built and actually perform. So tempting…
These are made long enough to wear across your body, messenger style. The price is a result of a higher quality of materials used, more complicated construction method, and small quantity USA production verses mass production in China. Each strap is a limited edition. These aren’t just a piece of ribbon sewn onto some webbing. I am a professional who wears my camera a lot, so I find $120 not much to pay for something much more comfortable that also shows my clients I care about quality and style.
