When digital flush mount albums first came into vogue, I, like many people, began pushing the envelope. I started playing around with drop shadows, keylines, sloppy borders, any cool trick I could think of. The result? Not pretty.

I’ve returned to a super clean design style, almost mimicking white matte albums. Just the images on a white page, with some full bleed images. I feel that clean, simple designs are the most pleasing to the eye, look higher end than busy designs, and they sell better.

keep-it-simple

Here is a clean design from a recent wedding. I want the images to breath – speak for themselves.

Thinking about this the other day, I was reminded of some of the truly bad album designs that I’ve done. I made this video to mock mostly myself.

Enjoy.
