It was a firmware release that was so big it got its own movie poster, but if you thought the story was over, you’re in for a big surprise.
After all the issues that people had downloading it, Canon has yanked the the Firmware update for the 5D MII. That’s right. If you haven’t updated your firmware yet, you’re not going to be able to.
The issues appear to be sound related, as reported over on the 5D Mark II Team blog (note, despite the name, it isn’t an official Canon blog.) Here is a sample complaint:
No audio in C modes unless I set my audio levels in one of the “creative” modes (M, Av, Tv, ) first and then go into my C mode of choice. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a C mode if I have to go to another mode first…

We are working on a new firmware update to address these phenomena, which will be available soon. If you have not registered your EOS 5D Mark II, pleaseregister so we will be able to notify you via email when future firmware updates become available for download.

Good for them to have the b****s to pull it, rather than just let it drift out as a bit of buggy software like so many companies do.

Hmmm, I updated to the new firmware as soon as it came out, and I’m not having any problems…
