Remember when Drobo made one really cool thing? Well, their product line has expended one step farther with the new Drobo FS.
Admittedly, they are working variations on a theme, and the new Drobo FS is designed to act as a File Server. That’s it, nothing more.
Well, by nothing I mean the typical Drobo RAID-like redundancy against drive failure (up to two, in this case), ability to use a mix of drives, self-healing technology, and all the other Drobo goodness we’ve come to expect, with the added ability to plug it into a Gigabit ethernet.
At $699, the new five bay FS is $100 less than the Drobo S, which also has five bays. It lacks the Drobo Ses other connectors (including eSATA), but for most people, gigabit ethernet is more than enough.
