Without a doubt Aperture was in need of some updating. The new Aperture 3 promises 200+ new features and as such we certainly won’t be listing them all here in this article. Worth noting:
- HD video and still slideshows (they call them stunning)
- RAW+JPEG Import
- More EXIF data in the import window
- Face recognition (more neat than useful)
- Add metadata presets on import
- Apply adjustment presets on import (hmm Lightroom already did this at least they are catching up)
- A bunch of organizational stuff
- Blah, blah, blah….
You get the idea. Supposedly they’ve made it better. Better to the tune of $200 ($99 for the upgrade). Will you be buying a copy? What’s your “fave” new feature?

Don’t forget the direct integration with Queensbury, Leather Craftsmen, Graphistudio. Video editing capabilities (basic), skin smoothing, CA removal, curves
Looks like a pretty major update.
The mere fact that it has curves is a big bonus!
Aperture 3 sucks. I am soooo upset and disappointied. Waiting for so long to get something so useless. Come on Apple! It is so sluggish on my MAC PRO that it isn’t funny. Try to use the new brushes and they are so non responsive. It seems that Apple pretend for me to spend $4k to use a $99 software. I am done and over with Aperture.
I am so excited! I have been using it for a while now in testing and I it has been just incredible! Check out this blog post on the highlights of Aperture 3 for Wedding and Portrait Photographers.

Awesome upgrade, cannot disagree more with David I’m afraid! I have a bog standard iMac and it FLIES! New brushes work with no lag at all.
I downloaded the trial, and the new features are very exciting, but unfortunately, it seems to be hogging all of my 4GB of memory. I’ve also experienced excruciatingly long lags (over 30 seconds) every time I make an additional click using Brushes. I could maybe put this down to needing a newer machine, but there are some serious bugs:
When I import files and specify to “store their files in their current location”, I get an error message saying that there is insufficient space – it appears to want to temporarily copy, rather than leave the files where they are. In my an effort to find a solution, I went to the Apple support forums and they’re littered with people having problems. Now I acknowledge that people experiencing problems shout louder than people that aren’t, but there really do seem to be quite a lot of issues for many users out there. It’s a pity, I really want to use a lot of the features of Aperture 3.
