David duChemin has recently been writing about the balance between the geek and the artist over at Pixelated Image. I tend to save my geek up for things like light and how to do cool things in photoshop, and not the inner workings of the closed black box that is a camera.
However, Roger Cicala, over at Lens Rentals.com has a really interesting read on lenses, bodies and a whole bunch of issues related to sharpness that even I could geek out to. But he has bad news for people who look at every photo with a fine tooth comb:
Its is a bad time to be a pixel-peeper. If you look closely enough on a high resolution full-frame camera, chances are you’ll find some minor flaw with every lens you own. If you go through 13 copies and get one that’s just perfect, remember to never, ever upgrade your camera body, because it probably won’t be perfect on the next one.
Go check out his other opinions and conclusions (including a predicted end to the Megapixel war) at lensrentals.com.
