I know it’s short but it was interesting to see how lo-tech the shoot actually was. Or maybe a better word is simple. I want a copy of Vogue Beauty to see the full shoot now.
UPDATE: no need to wait for a copy of Vogue to show up. Click here to see the photos! (nudity) I’m in love with Ellen. (that’s the photographer btw not the super hot model)

Why is it so many photographers don’t know how to properly hold a camera? Just wondering. (See :23) The assistant could bang into her arm or the photographer bangs her elbow on something around her and that camera goes right to the ground. Also, the way she’s holding it can get her carpel tunnel in her left wrist eventually.
Simply underhand cup the lens barrel in one hand for support (and which you’ll use those fingers to work the lens) and the other gripped to trigger. And if you need to flip the camera for a vertical shot, bring the gripped hand under rather than over. Your wrists will thank you.
Funny…I was thinking the same thing. Saw an ad on tv the other day and saw the same thing. Drives me crazy.
On another note, thanks for sharing this. Can anyone tell what type of strobe that is? I’m always on the lookout for lighting and I liked how small it was. Thanks in advance is anyone responds.
Lol. Don’t worry, Ellen will learn some day
Funny about carpal tunnel, some people never experience it. Working with hands is something that humans have done for awhile now.
The light looks like a Q Flash. But there is always, Lumedyne, Comet, Norman, and Elinchrom for portable strobe too.
Well, people have been working with their hands since the cave days, true, but I’m pointing to working, not with hands, but with tools in them where using poor form that can cause damage. You know how a bodybuilder or athlete can tear a rotator cuff by pitching or handling a weight incorrectly. Or tennis players get “tennis elbow”? Or how folks can inflame ligaments because their wrists are consistently positioned poorly while typing?
Same difference with handling cameras.
Typewriter production dates back to the late 19th century. But carpal tunnel is relatively recent. Most of the tools man has used have been far more intensely used (survival issues). While CTS may exist, there is another syndrome called tension myositis syndrome (TMS) which may account for many incidences. AFAIK, Ellen Von Unwerth doesn’t have CTS from her form, and she’s been shooting for a second or two.
