At one time or another we’ve all needed to share an image with a client but the file was just a bit too large for email. The solution was always to use a file sharing service or to FTP the file to your own website and provide a direct URL for download. If you’re like me and you find that all just a bit much you’ll love bit.ly’s latest offering, “Link to File”.

As you can see below it’s a very simple process:
- Goto bit.ly
- Click on “Link to a File”.
- Select the jpg, png, gif, bmp, tiff, swf, flv, pdf, mp4, mov, avi that you wish to share.
- Click shorten to upload your file and create the link which you can then share.
To accomplish this task bit.ly is using another service by that goes by the name Yfrog. A service designed to help you share images and video via twitter. Of course the system is very public so I would not share sensitive information such as contracts but for simple image file sharing it’s really as simple as it can get.
BONUS! bit.ly allows you to track activity on your link so you’ll know just how many times it’s been clicked on.

Want to see how it works? Here is a sample image that I uploaded to test the service. It’s a 1.35mb image file of a brides backside (fully clothed people get your minds out of the gutter). http://bit.ly/13M18K
