There’s always been something delightfully low-rent about Neil van Neikerk’s Black Foamie Thingy, not the least of which was it’s price, at just a few cents.
However, upping the ante (and the price) is the new Rogue Flashbenders from ExpoImaging. This is not the first product in this category (Honl has had something similar for a while), but these new flash modifiers can be shaped into a variety of, um, shapes, to … shape … the light.
Typically, the device is used white side out so as to add to the reflection, but you can use the black side, a la the black foamy thingy.
Price on one of these? $104.85 for three.

I knew someone will come up with an overpriced product to an affordable solution. from $30 to (not too shabby) $104 bucks!!
I will stay with my foamy thingy thanks.

How about a quick and dirty laminate…
Black foam followed by cine foil followed by white foam. Easily ups the price of the black foamy thing to well over .80 and adding velcro pushes maybe up around the dollar mark.
Then you’d have all the functionality of this guy!
I laminated a sheet of thin brass foil between black and white foamy sheets over a year ago for just this reason. I miss the ability to roll it down out of the way so I rarely use that version. Major props to the inventor of this beautifully refined idea.
Kevin.. I’d love to blog that process for everyone. Care to share? mark@digitalweddingforum.com
When I purchased my black foamy thing I noticed white foamy things in the next bin. I bought one of those as well. Total expenditure, including 6% sales tax came to $1.99
