First let’s take a moment to appreciate that this post is a blog post about a blog post about blogging. Second, read the whole post before you click through the links, that part will make sense later.
Blogging is a finger on the hand that is social network marketing. Some posts are fantastic and are trailing with pages of comments. Other times you click publish, anxiously anticipating the reverberations of the explosivity of your post only to be face with the deafening sound of digital crickets. Charlie Gilkey of ProBlogger has a handy list of 8 Reasons You Might Not Be Getting Blog Comments. Perhaps your posts are too long, your timing stinks, or you are making it hard for them. The solutions are quick, easy and obvious now that he has pointed them out for us, like making your posts shorter, figuring out a better time to publish, and cutting back on the number of hoops that people must jump through to comment.
My 2 cents is adding a checkbox option so people can express how they feel without having to think about it. One thing Gilkey doesn’t address: do you NEED comments? Are they necessary for your readers to think you’re cool and popular? Do you need to have your ego stroked? I know they make me feel good.
