One of the wonderful things about news media in the digital age is the our human need for reason gets fed by the tabloids and even the “legitimate” press can then pick it up. Chris Henry, wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals died as the result of a strange auto accident that appears to me to be the result of a domestic dispute. It seems that Henry was getting married and before he hopped into the bed of the pickup truck that his fiancee was driving they reportedly were arguing about wedding costs. Specifically wedding photography (which he was getting at a steal). TMZ was kind enough to supply the photography contract.
What irks this blogger is that in a domestic dispute that is carried to this kind of tragic end, does it really matter why they were fighting? It could have been even a petty argument that lead to this sort of incident. The relationship had to have been dysfunctional before any stressors hit it in order for it to have ended this way.
People who have a problem with marriage as a concept point to the divorce rate as proof that it is a faulty institution. The Henry case illustrates to me that the state of the relationship before the marriage is a greater indication of the success of the marriage. What we have is an opportunity to start a public discussion about relationships, marriage and abuse. What we have ended up with is an innocent industry being blamed for the death of a star.

1 Comment at "Can Wedding Photography Kill Celebrities?"
Of course we DO NOT kill celebrities or anyone. What we do is preserve memories. From a wedding last year, the bride’s father died a month after her wedding. About seven years ago, a bride I photographed was killed a month after her wedding. In both situations, once the initial shock wore away, the images I captured were some of the most important these families had of their dearest relatives on a very special day. We all have stories like this because it’s what we do.
