its one of my favorites for many reasons. but i won’t write the whole story out, just to say i was showing off to the dozens of uncle bob’s who said look at this great sunset! why is she so dark? then i take out my 2nd flash and have my assistant hold it up and trigger it using nikon CLS and hear ohhs and ahhs as they look at the back of my screen.
Here’s my submission. The groom and I moved this (heavy) window the length of a football field to set this shot up. It’s my favorite from this season.

We are a husband and wife team, but my husband, Eric, is the creative genius. He has been saving (even forfeiting new alien bees) to attend your workshop…My hope is that you think the picture linked below is as freaking RAD-tastic as I do! It was SO hard to pick just one with the work Eric has been doing lately – but I know he is one person that would get SO much out of what you are teaching, he is a HUGE admirer of both of you! Fingers crossed!

The image I am submitting is the 1st image on by blog page. I made sure the characters/wedding guess were in the frame and took a few shots to get the right reaction I was looking for. Nothing was staged, I just wanted to be in the right position to capture the expressions, movements, and reactions of all involved. I kicked it up a notch with some actions from JB Sallee.
Thanks for checking out the photo…would love to be a part of the workshop, just cannot afford it at this time.

“my best photo will be the next one I take”, but for now this is my favorite!
Incase anyone is reading the comments and wondering, WHERE ARE ALL THE PHOTOS? (click on peoples names to visit the photo links)
This is one from a recent photo session.
It all seemed to come together from the location to the hair, makeup and accessories, but I think it was more of a fluke than on purpose. I’d like to be able to do this more consistently.

To late??? Maybe so.. but I want to share anyway. I love this shot from a recent wedding – one of the groomsmen almost broke his ankle getting the “props” for the guys, but I think they really set the shot off – giving a bit more of a relaxed feel rather than a “formal” feel.

This is my very best photo in my opinion, simply for the moment itself. We were just finishing up post ceremony bridal party shots and I was walking behind them when the groom reached down and gathered her dress to keep it from dragging on the sidewalk. The shot is sort of unconventional since they aren’t even facing the camera, but I love it anyway

A recent engagement photo that is my favorite. I like how the reflection makes a complete circle in the still water.

some really amazing images here…
This is one of my favorite images from the 2009 season. I was setting the bride up for some close-up portraits, when I noticed her smiling at her bridesmaids, reminiscent of Marilyn and couldn’t resist the shot.

I love this shot…it was toward the end of an engagement session, and I wanted to use the fountain as a background, then all of a sudden the water came pouring down on them. I *swear* I didn’t know this was going to happen, but I’m glad it did!

I have wanted to do a more fashion forward session for quite awhile. My friend was finally ready for some fun with her dress after getting divorced. After much planning (and makeup and dressing up) we had a late start but we got many of my ideas out. Suddenly the clouds came quickly rolling in. I love how we just bumped up the ISO, pulled out our video light and kept shooting. I love the mood of this photo!

I’ve only shot 4 weddings and this image was from my last shoot. I just love the light. It was taken on the west end of Bermuda, just after sunset and the sky was starting to go that deep blue. I also like the sailboat in the background, it just adds that bit of mysticism (is there such a word? )
).

THis is what I am all about. Jason this is the ultimate putting conpect in action photo, this all came from an idea, Hey I would love to take a bride and groom storm chasing. http://candicecunningham.smugmug.com/photos/664649034_SUnZZ-L.jpg
I wanted to add the lighting is 1,000,000% UN RETOUCHED UNphotoshopped took 300 frames 45 min, life risking.
A late day photo of Jennifer and Andrew at Oakes Garden Theater, Niagara Falls; saw some beautiful back lighting and asked the bride and groom to stop at the top of the stairs, this is the result.

This session was by far the most fun as well as the most rewarding. We went from the tree, to the ocean and finally underwater in a pool. It was a day of total enjoyment and creative freedom. I would like to incorporate the way I feel about this shoot into all of my work.

Cory, I remember that photo from when you first posted it. Love it!
While not an official wedding shot, it is of my bride. We were on our honeymoon in the Badlands National Park, and she just looked out into the canyon.
I am new to this side of the business and just starting out. I have lots to learn.
Thanks for the opportunity
To show how new I am, I attached my entry in the blog line.
Let’s try this again!

Sometimes executing a photo works and sometimes it doesn’t. I want to increase the success rate of my visions.
Great idea. When is the contest deadline. 12am today?
is there any preference on style of photo? Considering the nature of your class do you prefer posed shots with additional lighting than a candid photo?

We were wrapping up the session, and it’s was completely dark outside, she told me that she was disappointed that we didn’t get to use our grafitti wall, I thought, “there’s no way, it’s too dark”, then my strobist mind kicked up this thought, “why not put this strobe knowledge to work, what good is it if I never use it?”. So 5 strobes, 3 stands, one flashlight, her mom (holding a flash), my wife (holding a flash), and a flying bat pestering us, this is the result….

I saw JMC in KC last summer and he showed our group an image of a Bride’s profile showing off her tall and slanted hairdo…he had mentioned how he had envisioned a Frankenstein wife image lighting previous to taking the shot (before showing up), and incorporated that idea into his portraiture of this particular Bride. That idea of “concept” photography has stuck with me. I had a Bride in February that disclosed to me that she liked to knit (she was embarrassed to say at the time) while her fiance would watch his basketball games on their little tv. Why, I don’t know, but I thought of Frankenstein-wife-inspiration…not for lighting or posing…but just for courage to try something a little crazy with a Bride I barely knew. …so, I show up at the wedding with a little TV (courtesy of my husband’s mechanic shop), and we found an office in the church with a sofa (actually looks like a livingroom), and I had them do what they “do”, while my assistant-husband held a 580exII flash with a blue gel and covered with a ringflash attachment down in front of the TV. I wirelessly triggered it with my old-banged-up-220 Transmitter…and wala! Instant glory. I was so worried I was out of my mind, but it has since been one of my most memorable images EVER. I wish I would have thought to do a few extra little things when taking it, but I’m still pretty proud of it nontheless.

With Trash the Dress sessions being all the rage, I thought I’d post some of these not so typical trash the dress images. Some otherwise know as “Drag the Dress”.
P.S. The men depicted in these images are completely heterosexual (from what I know), do not even cross dress, but will do lots of fun crazy things for a killer image.
Location: New Orleans
Hey John and Jason: I would LOVE to attend your workshop!!! I’m charging up my radio poppers and keeping my fingers crossed. Congrats on Today show appearance!!
