Call me a dreamer but I really like this idea. Disney and Pixar have introduced a first of it’s kind Facebook application which allows you to buy tickets to Toy Story 3 tickets without ever leaving the Facebook site. According to the NYT this new app not only allows you to purchase tickets without ever leaving the safety and security of your virtual friendship bubble, it also allows Disney to market to your friends via alerts and prompts.
That’s great Mark, it will replace Fandango (actually it won’t as it’s tied into Fandango) but what does this have to do with selling my photos via Facebook!
Well my thinking is this. If Facebook is going to allow people to purchase “Things” from within the site shouldn’t we expect that some enterprising individual will some day wake up and say.
OMG there are like 4 jillion photos on Facebook. What if people could purchase hard or virtual copies of the photos they are viewing on my profile/page/group! Gosh darn it I’m going to build that app!
Mark my words that guy (or girl) that makes that happen will be filthy rotten stinking rich nearly overnight.
What do you guys think? If Facebook builds it will they come? Will we all be selling our photos via Facebook some day?

Of course we will. Sign me up!
Mark,
I already have trouble with FB’s privacy issues (trust).
I don’t like their T&C with regard to content. After posting that piece (Getty) about ADs borrowing stock images, I would think you may feel the same.
How many more wedding/family images would be sold on FB?
How much harder would it be to manage copyrights and liability?
For other images why would more quality sales happen on FB as opposed to say flickr or Photoshelter? Or are you thinking low ticket high volume, like microstock?
Scott FB has nothing to do with this current app. The point is someone like yourself could go out and create an app for wedding photographers to sell their images via facebook. FB never touches the money and the images could be shown within the app.
I’m just thinking that FB already has more traffic than Google. People are there why not sell to them. And if Aunt Suzie bought from you all of the rest of the family will know. That is what makes it potentially a better source. More eyeballs.
It’s possible, it’s only a matter of time, and concocting the parameters of the basic photo selling etiquette.
Wouldn’t the family already know if Aunt Suzie bought from your private gallery posted for the specific event or project?
How will an app running in FB be exclusive of FBs T&Cs?
How will it not be subject to the same privacy problems?
At first glance it seems there are two distinct markets here.
One is selling stock to the public. The other is the family which commissioned your services.
Will FB access this family any better than you already can with your web gallery?
Will the family allow you to sell images of them as stock to the general public?
