Yeah I know Lightroom 3 is in Beta and should be coming out soon. That’s probably why this is on sale now. But remember as with all adobe products. The upgrade path is almost always the cheaper path. Meaning, it usually cheaper to but an older copy of a program like Photoshop or Lightroom then pay the discounted upgrade price to bring your dated copy up to the current revision once it’s released.
