So far the iPad is the first slate available en masse but it looks like Dell has been working on their own alternative for quite some time.
Engadget has some exclusive pics (I’m not leeching them so click to see em) and is reporting that we likely won’t see them in the wilds until much later this year.
I love competition as it drives the market but I fear that for all of these tablets coming late this year / early next it might be too late.

Seriously, how exactly coming out with it late this year or next year is “being too late”????
First of all, if you have half a brain (I think I have close to it) you will wait to see how it fairs in the market in the hands of die hard apple fanboys.
Secondly, I am a PC guy so Dell product make so much more sense regardless when they will come up with it.
The World does not evolve around apple (although some think so).

It’s a matter of demand. With 500,000 iPads sold week one by the end of the year millions of people interested in tablets will no longerl be in need of a tablet. If you’re fighting for real estate in a new market it’s always better to be first. I’m holding out hope for Dell releasing a quality product.
