In a recent interview with Gene Higa he spoke about shooting the details for the album. At our last wedding (Fundy and Focht) I made a special effort to shoot details of the church just for this particular reason.
The wedding was at a Greek Orthodox church, where the groom’s family had attended for generations. I knew that the location was special for them, and especially important to the groom’s parents.
So, before the ceremony started, I spent some extra time shooting the details with a particular spread in mind. This was the result. When telling a story, I keep reminding myself that we can always go deeper and deeper into the story of the day. The deeper we go, the better photographers we become.

I agree wholeheartedly.. I just did this very thing for my brother’s wedding. His first at a beautiful chapel by the ocean. I knew that the wedding was a very special occasion on several levels and the location meant alot to him so I made a point of getting there just at sunset to get some really nice shots of the location before the wedding which was in the AM a few days later. Both he and his new wife just loved the pics. There was a few things inside the church that I knew would be mean alot ot both, scriptures carved into stone, what page the bible was opened to and so on. Got it all for the album.
