Dear Wedding Photographer:
Don’t panic.
That’s the message of this video from acclaimed wedding photographer David Jay. After a very tough year, many wedding photographers are going into 2010 with only a few bookings and a closet full of anxiety.
DJ’s message? Breathe. Don’t be too worried. Why? Well, I’ll let him explain that himself. Check out the video then come back here and tell us if you agree or disagree with his assessment.

He’s right in one sense, if you look at the Google trends for “wedding photography” it takes a HUGE dip between Thanksgiving and Christmas, then a HUGE spike right after Christmas. Many bookings will come in January and February.
On the other hand, he’s always way too warm, fuzzy and optimistic. Some people need to be slapped by the reality that they’re not booking and figure out what’s wrong with their business. It seems like DJ is constantly telling photographers that everything is great, which is a massive disservice to those whom really should be concerned and seeking change.
Also, always makes sure to have your towel. Really.
I agree with Brett a little, I am not sure if DJ always says that because this is the first time that I saw him, but everyone must face the fact to see what is wrong with their marketing strategy. I am on that stage now, this is my first year in my own after college. I do not have any weddings book yet, but I am not resting looking at all the possibilities.. it is important to find a list of what show or caterer will you want to work with and do business with..
But i enjoy his video!
Cheers
