This one is rather interesting. The Consumerist reports that one man RMA’d two drives to Seagate only to be told that because he used a sharpie to write on the outside of the case that he voided his warranty.
I don’t know about you guys but I have a entire stack of hard drives with what amounts to a sharpie rainbow written all over them.

wow! good thing I’ve been using my label maker. but i use all WD drives, maybe they’d consider sticky label residue a warranty voider.
Simple. Before you send it in, take an alcohol pad to the markings. What writing?
