One of the problems I often encounter when designing a portrait album is a lack of images. The minimum page count available by any album company is 10 pages. This means that you need a minimum of 8-10 images, if you have a few images that go full bleed. One technique I often use when designing portrait albums is to use the same image twice on a spread.
I call this technique echoing. Using my software, I create two openings. For the main view of an image I create an opening that is almost a full bleed. Then I create a small sliver next to it for the same image.
I place the same image in both openings. Then on the “echo” image I place a color overlay or a texture, to give it a sense of difference. In this particular design, I sampled the background (see this how-to).

This is just a simple technique I use on our family and senior albums to bring variety when I don’t have a large number of images to choose from.

Thanks for the great tip! I’ll try that- it sounds cool even if you have a bunch to choose from.
