Ok who am I trying to kid, it wasn’t “A bit of a pain”. It was a full blown trip to the land of frustration and government red tape to accomplish what should have been a simple task. Well stress no more my photographer friends because now you can submit your work to the “Electronic Copyright Office” online.
So you’re saying to yourself, “Why in the world would I bother doing that? I’m only shooting weddings.” You should do it to protect yourself should your photos ever be used without your permission. (AKA borrowed by someones “Web Designer”) Almost no IP attorney worth their law degree would touch a case where the images were not registered for the simple reason that registered images carry a much higher “statutory” damage dollar sign.
Photoshelter blog to the rescue with an in depth step by step guide to electronic copyright registration. A post worthwhile of a permanent bookmark for sure.
