DWF – Let’s start off with a little bio, tell us a little bit about yourself.
JACO – Photography is my passion. I love shooting weddings. I got a talent from God and I feel I need to use it to honour His name.
DWF – How did you become a photographer?
JACO-It started by chance. My aunt asked us to do the video of her wedding. We borrowed a digital SLR from my brother in law to shoot some stills to include in the video.
During the ceremony the photographers flash blew up and she asked us to take over as she did not have any form of back-up. In the end our images looked better than hers and my brother told us that we have talent and should not let it go.
That was in 2004. Now I love to shoot weddings. I love getting awards but the best award is when the bride cries from joy when she sees her images for the first time.
DWF- If we needed a photographer today why would we book you? What makes you unique?
JACO - My images stand out from the norm. I love to do something different. I am very easy going and have a calming effect on the brides.
We have fun on the day with our couples and produce WOW images that will have your family and friends talking for months and years on.
DWF - If you had to pick a favorite “Tool of the Trade” what would it be? and why?
JACO - I don’t have any favourites but I do love working in new stunning locations around the world.
I love a challenge.
DWF – Care to share your favorite photographs?
JACO -
DWF – How about some final words to live by?
JACO - Enjoy your day. That is what it is about. Don’t let the small stuff spoil your day.
Time = WOW images, no time = paying Jaco for doing nothing

“the photographers flash blew up and she asked us to take over”….how hokey is that……..sounds like the original photographer hired was NOT a professional.
Spectacular photographer!
No ofense, but I don’t like this photos!
The photo’s are good in their own right and style. But for me personally I must agree with FotoStefan, they just seem a little too processed and ‘worked’.
That umbrella shot looks just like the one Yervant’s had reproduced on the cover of Rangefinder some time ago as well as everywhere else. Hey, we all are influenced by others. Some more. Evidently.
That thought though that the Creator of All the Known Universe and Everything In It needs people to create wedding photos (at profitable rates) in his name is kinda lump-sided priority considering there are babies dying of malnutrition now, in the past and always. Like millions upon millions of them. Ya’d think the Good Lord would want people to FEED THEM first. Maybe take a photo later.
Seriously, talent is wide-spread, Jaco. You ain’t the only person with a gift, so don’t be so small-minded to think you taking pictures is honoring anyone bigger than you.
@ A. Reason- your comment struck a chord with me and I thought I needed to respond. I am a Christ follower and it is my understanding that every person has a gift (including you) for some it can be feeding children in Africa, yet for others it can be capturing someones marriage day. You seem jaded somehow and that is to bad. Just because Jaco didn’t mention what he does to glorify God (beyond taking photographs and charging for it, which is nothing to be judged) doesn’t mean he does nothing about his faith in his community and life
I believe I have a gift from God (you may just say its a passion) is for helping my community members. Because I focus on helping out in my community does that make my taking photos as well and charging for it a sin? I don’t think so, even if I thank God for the ability to capture peoples sacred wedding day.
You have your right to your opinion but if you see a problem in the world like starving kids in Africa, what are you doing about that? if you see a problem in the world don’t pin it on Christians and the Church to do something about it, pin it on yourself and see what you can do about it.
Thanks all for the feedback. Look taste does differ so not everybody will like what I do. You would be surprised how little I do PS the images. I have had video people work with me that had the same idea and then I showed them the back of the camera as soon as I shot the image. Anyway you have the right to like what you do. As for me giving the honour to God for all our success. I must be honest I do not understand why somebody would be negative about the fact that we do. I shoot weddings as most wedding I shoot happens in a church so there is some sore of religious connection. I could do other forms of photography but I choose not to for religious and personal reasons.
I agree with David that my statement did not mention anything other that honour His name. Yes we do get paid but that has nothing to do with saying thank you for Him that looks after me. Anyway I do not want this to turn into a religious tiff. If you don’t agree than that is your opinion.
As for the images that have and Yervant feel. Yes I did get the inspiration from him as he showed me how to do it at his workshop. So I pay good money to do a workshop but I may not use it when I get the chance to use it. I did put my own spin on it as the toning is nothing like his image, but again this image did not win anything I just gave it to be posted on this blog as I liked the way it ended up.
Regards.
Jaco.
Jaco,
Your style and faith are so beautifully vibrant and alive and I admire them both. Everything about a wedding is over the top. I know the memories of my own wedding day are “pure HDR” in my own mind. The photos from our day, beautiful as they are, are far too reserved to accurately convey the electricity of the whole experience. To me what you have shown here is a very realistic portrayal of what I was seeing and feeling on one of the most magical days of my life. Keep putting it out there my friend. It’s all about accurately telling the story and you are a magnificent story teller!
Blessings to you,
Kevin
Thanks Kevin
I know Jaco and I take some pictures as a hobby and at one time I had the same camera as Jaco. I was amazed(still am) at the quality and composition of his pictures. To put it in perspective, after photo shopping my own pictures for hours, I couldn’t get my pictures looking nearly as good as Jaco’s out-of-camera quality shots. The success of any good picture will always be in the shot, not the edit.
