As I have worked my personal network on Facebook with just a touch of promotion for my photography business, I am astounded by the number of clients that I am picking up from my Facebook profile. What stared as a minor obsession to see photos of old friends and friend collecting has turned into a major marketing campaign for me.
It should be for you too. Facebook is still the fastest growing online social network with new people building profiles every day!
My Facebook marketing plan:
- Friend everyone I’ve ever met and some I haven’t
- Friend all of my clients, when possible
- Post their images to my profile and tag them
- Keep in touch, celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, births, comment on their statuses (stati?) and photos
- Be generally witty and funny in my updates and drive people to my blog and Web site (good luck, I know!)
You are on Facebook, right? Find and friend me, so I can collect some more and expand my campaign.
What are your Facebook marketing strategies?

We are contrarian…. We do NOT post images of clients on Facebook. We advertise the fact that we value other people’s privacy too much to use them for personal recognition.
The people we reach with this message universally agree. They want to post their own images on Facebook and will not accept what some self-seeking glory hound has posted of them.
Plus Facebok can do whatever they want with my images and that is not anything I agree with.
In the short term, this strategy may work against our business, but in the long run I think we will see this as a benefit to us and our clients.
Most of our clients enjoy seeing their images on our blog and facebook. They want to share their wedding day. Different strokes for different folks.
