WebProNews has some tossed out an article that many of you will find interesting. When Google first started indexing twitter they didn’t provide any information about how they would treat this new eternal fountain of constantly renewing information. In their article they mention:
Google also ranks tweets by followers to an extent, but it’s not just about how many followers you get. It’s about how reputable those followers are.
Very, very interesting! It might be time to cull that follower list. Deadwood be gone!
It also appears that though Google might be frowning on the constant use of hastags in tweets. Read about that and more here.

Actually this is kind of a “Duh!”. That’s how Google ranks websites and incoming links anyhow. The catch is that the twitter accounts need to be public if Google is going to use them in any way.
Actually Richard I think the hashtag bit is the biggest reveal as many photographers use them to build hits to their twitter account. #photographers #photos #wedding etc..
To find out they can negatively effect ranking is a good bit of knowledge.
And also, to know that your 100 sorta kinda friends that don’t ever post but you approved them because you wanted to look like you had a pile of friends could be also negatively effect your tweet google ranking is also worth noting while approving friendships.
Good point, well taken on the #hashtags bit. Though it’s so pervasive I’d bet that *eventually* Google will figure a way around it. But yeah, if it’s true some might want to cut down.
I think that culling your followers would be a waste of time. I interpret that to mean that 20 out of 40 good followers is just as good as 20 out of 100 followers.
