His website, assembled by his friends after his death in 1997, includes some 6,697 polaroids in sequence ending on his 41st birthday below.
Mental Floss has an amazing and (to me at least) inspiring, article on Jamie and his polaroids so I won’t do them the injustice of repeating what they have to say.
Rather I’d like to talk about his photos themselves. I think there is a real lesson to be learned here, that being we should never underestimate the power of any photograph. Many of these images are far from beautiful or even what I would call artistic. Jamie clearly focused more on the moment than the technical merit as he pressed down on the shutter release. Further evidenced by his choice of a simple camera (the polaroid). But in their most raw sense these photos capture a moment in time and the sum of the whole is where their presence lies.
Jamie managed to capture real life and tell a story with his camera. A valuable lesson and something to strive for without a doubt. May he rest in peace.
