Health insurance seems to be floating around in the brains of many Americans these days. Nearly all of the photographers I know are self employed. Those that aren’t work for the crippled news industry. That means that all of us have to are might have to provide ourselves with life insurance. The alternative is having a spouse who is employed by a company that offers guaranteed issue insurance, which many do. For those of you who are self insured or are looking to be, watch out. You may not be as well covered as you think you are.
Stephen and Elaine Folker were self insured photographers who found that their insurance company could decide to not pay for a test after the fact based on the results. With the feeble/over reaching attempts at health care reform (depending on your opinion) things could get much better or much worse. Either way they aren’t great now. Make sure you know what you are dealing with.
