When I know there is going to be fireworks at a wedding I set up a location to meet the bride and groom they love this they know they will be together and I do not have to go looking for them in the dark I have my tripod all set up and they just walk into the frame.

Smoke:

If it's going to be a long performance, there's usually a lot of smoke build up. My suggestion is to try and be upwind of where the display area is. That should cut down on the amount of haze in your photos, and keep the trails nice and sharp.

The smoke can also make an awesome, billowing background, especially when it swirls around tree lines.

Have fun, people!

It may be worth it to note that doing lots of long exposures is likely to drain your battery... so make sure you have a charged backup around if you're at a wedding and still doing coverage after the fireworks.
