Home office networking is often a problem. How do I get my internet connection from the house to my above garage office, garden studio or to that spare room that was the only one my wife would let me use. (I’m not bitter)
Wireless works in a pinch, but we all know performance and speeds decreases with distance. As photographers moving large files frequently, we know the value of speed.
Belkin to the rescue with their newest Gigabit Powerline HD Starter Kit. Priced at $150 (retail so we’ll be able to find it cheaper) this could be just the trick for those of us who don’t wat to get messy hardwiring our home office for ethernet.
The Belkin kit uses your existing in home powerlines and simply plugs into two wall outlets, one near your modem and one near your computer, turning your homes wiring into an ethernet network. If the claim of Gigabit speeds up to 300m via wall powerlines is to be believe Belkin might just have a winner on their hand.
At the very least I might be able to move my noisy backup server to some other room other than the dungeon my wife has stuck me in. Oops did I say that out loud?
