songs about time

Fuji declares film is not dead with their latest alternative rock collaboration. Matt Sharp former baseplayer for the band Weezer, current frontman for The Rentals and “Professional Photographer” has asked Fuji to back his latest project “Songs About Time”.

Sharp… will shoot one roll of the film per day, approximately 14,000 photos in all, as part of the multi-faceted artistic campaign that features photographs about days, videos about weeks, and songs about time. The culmination of the project, which launched on April 7, includes 365 limited deluxe edition boxed sets that will include one of Sharp’s undeveloped rolls of Fujifilm NEOPAN film, helping to visually depict The Rentals’ record making process, and further connecting fans to the band’s music.

Sharp will be shooting with NEOPAN 1600 black & white film which he says fits his style of shooting better than digital.

I needed to find a type of film that enables me to shoot in really diverse lighting situations. I try to shoot using only natural available light and I often find myself shooting in very dark studios one moment and then in direct sunlight the next and NEOPAN simply gave me the best results..

For diehard fans it sounds like the ultimate must have.  Sharp claims he picked 35mm film as it is more emotionally true, nostalgic and romantic. Poppycock but read for yourself and decide.
