Ok that’s a lie. The smallest bar on the reception graph is now twice the size it used to be. The reception… It still sucks. So much for the promise of a software fix for a design flaw. Common sense tells you that people (most being right handed) will hold the phone just like this in order to use applications.
Apple is holding a press conference tomorrow and while I love Apple stuff to pieces I do hope they do the right thing and recall this phone. Or at the very least offer replacements as the rumor mill has Apple production stopped while an internal fix is implemented.

This is my first week with my Evo from Sprint. As a photographer using Tave, mileage loggers, checking out my (flash) website, and even the amazing 8mp camera, I am SUPER happy I went with it instead of the iPhone. My 3GS is now in the excited hands of my 54 year old mom who could not be happier.
Scott, same here, my phone has been rooted, installed about 8 different roms until I found the one I liked, a few camera apps until I again found the one I like and BAM, perfect phone for me.
Here is a hint for evo owners.
Download the LED light widget, Download Livo Recorder, set Livo to Wav, 16 bit, 44100.
Now when you do a video record in less than optimal light, turn on the LED light, turn on Livo recorder, and record using the no audio option.
You get beautiful audio and video and well lit (as good as your gonna get on a phone).
From me to you, enjoy.
Oh and you don’t need to hold it a certain way either.
Apple is holding the press conference tomorrow. If they don’t hold it right, the reception will be poor and the speed at which customer satisfaction returns to normal will be significantly reduced.
Haven’t noticed a problem with the reception yet, nothing out of the usual anyway.
After installing 4.0.1 my proximity issues seems to have been resolved and definitely my bluetooth is working again. While the reception issue still is there (bars go down when you put your finger on the bottom left) it’s never been an issue for me as far as general use, so, for me, finally, I’m good to go..
So, rather than admit that there’s a real reception problem, Apple says that the problem is that the reception graph is showing the wrong number of bars. This despite the fact that speed tests and dropped calls prove that it is, indeed, a reception problem. Now Apple’s solution is a updated OS that makes the reception bars look bigger. Do they think we’re STUPID?!?!
That’s like Toyota saying, the unintended acceleration problems with its cars was just a problem where the accelerometer was showing the wrong speed; the cars weren’t actually going faster (tell it to the families of the dead & injured). Then, they “fix” it by putting a sticker over the accelerometer showing half the speeds it had previously.
@Jake,
As you know, Toyota never deceived their client and I would buy a Toyota in a minute if I was on the market for a car now.
Apple on the other hand showed very little respect to their clients. And why shouldn’t they? People are lined up to buy the newset overpriced gadjet as if it is an ofering from God, just to lower it by a third a couple of months later.
They are telling you that you don’t know how to hold the phone and then create a mock upgrade so things look better.
Ya, they think you are stupid. You will never realized that your connection is actually as bad as before, right? I mean, if you smart and complain too much they might send secret service to your home an sue you on top of that.

Maybe I’m missing something – but I have had NO problems at all with my iphone.
