Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear,
Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair.
Fuzzy Wuzzy wasn’t very fuzzy was he?
Fuzzy is fine for a tongue twister but it’s not so hot when you’re a photographer talking about photos. Apparently those of you lucky enough to have completed the recent iOS 4 update from Apple have been experiencing “Fuzzy” photos due to extreme down sampling during the initial sync with iPhoto.
One BGR reader suggests the following fix:
I have a solution for the photos. Uncheck all the synced photo libraries in iTunes, sync your iPhone. No photos will be present in your iPhone. Then re-check the libraries (or events) in iTunes and all photos will be re-optimized again and appear as they should.
Worth noting the “Fuzz” is much worse when you transfer the images out of the phone back to a computer. That’s where it’s most noticeable.

I did not have the fuzzy image problem. My back up and updating did take 9 hrs on my 3G. Good update though.
This fix worked for me- I just hooked my 3Gs up and chose “sync” and now my pix are back to normally. I had backed my 16GB up the day before so the update process only took a matter of minutes at 10pm GMT.
