“Some pet photographers make upwards of $1000 a session!” … and my guess is that those photographers are now rolling their eyes at what seems like it might be another get-rich-quick bandwagon for photographers to jump.
I don’t mean to sound the grump. And pet photography IS lucrative for those who do it well.
Hi Rachel,
While pet portraiture can be lucrative, it is difficult to command those prices everywhere. Just like wedding photography, it is about developing relationships and building a client base. We have been fortunate at NWP to have a number of professionals at differing phases of development talking about their business models/plans (in the NWP Shop Talk Forum, which is only open to registered members). I don’t see everyone getting rich – though you can definitely help make a living. However, I think for most, pet photography may best be thought of as an additional venue for working photographers to help make ends meat at the end of the day.
