Some very popular hosting companies are imposing new file limits on their hosting accounts. This is bad news for wedding photographers, especially those who host their own carts, as proofing options like pickpic can often create thousands of files for just one wedding. Not to be confused with storage limits we’re talking about file limits. While you may have gigabytes of space left on your server if you reach their arbitrary file limit they may shut down your website with little or no notice what so ever!
According to DWF photographers, HostMonster has warned them of a 50,000 file limit and IX Web Hosting is now imposing a 100,000 file cap on their servers. Hosting company 1&1 imposes a slightly more resonable 262,144 file limit on their clients.
