UPDATED! 3:13pm Weds

It’s official, the iPad is the latest and greatest from Apple Computers. Steve Jobs today unveiled the Mac tablet claiming,  it sits somewhere between the iPhone and a Netbook. Personally it looks like it could be a pretty damn sweet portfolio device even in an office consultation setting as the gallery/slideshow controls appear to operate similar to the iPhone allowing you to manipulate by touching the screen with your hand.

While it’s certainly not going to replace my MacBook Pro as an editor I can see this having a place in my photography business and for sure in my living room as the new Lutz family couch potato web browsing machine.

  • It can run most iPhone apps already available in the App store.
  • 9.56 x 7.47 inches in size (just a half inch thick)
  • 1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi)
  • 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB flash drive
  • Priced to start at $499
  • Wi-Fi, bluetooth, compass, assisted GPS, cellular
  • Accelerometer
  • Built-in 25Whr rechargeable lithium-polymer battery
  • Up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching video, or listening to music

Obviously we’ll be bringing you the latest as it filters in but until then you can follow the live event at the following links.

We’ve got 15 minutes but until then Gizmodo might have a photo of the tablet. Time will tell.
