UPDATED! 3:13pm Weds
It’s official, the iPad is the latest and greatest from Apple Computers. Steve Jobs today unveiled the Mac tablet claiming, it sits somewhere between the iPhone and a Netbook. Personally it looks like it could be a pretty damn sweet portfolio device even in an office consultation setting as the gallery/slideshow controls appear to operate similar to the iPhone allowing you to manipulate by touching the screen with your hand.
While it’s certainly not going to replace my MacBook Pro as an editor I can see this having a place in my photography business and for sure in my living room as the new Lutz family couch potato web browsing machine.
- It can run most iPhone apps already available in the App store.
- 9.56 x 7.47 inches in size (just a half inch thick)
- 1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi)
- 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB flash drive
- Priced to start at $499
- Wi-Fi, bluetooth, compass, assisted GPS, cellular
- Accelerometer
- Built-in 25Whr rechargeable lithium-polymer battery
- Up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching video, or listening to music
Obviously we’ll be bringing you the latest as it filters in but until then you can follow the live event at the following links.

We’ve got 15 minutes but until then Gizmodo might have a photo of the tablet. Time will tell.

Okay, I am getting really into this:-)
Hmm… I can’t afford that Apple update their lines all the time!
A little underwhelmed so far.
Would make a very slick mobile portfolio though!
Lots of potential.
This would be a no buy for me. It’s a big iPhone with a really bad name. Due to the fact that it runs iPhone OS it has all of the iPhone’s set backs. No multi-tasking means no music while reading!? Really Apple, wtf!?
No camera to do video conferencing so I’m not sure what the point of the 3G model is especially if you already have an iPhone. I like expansion and really wish they had placed a SD slot on it too.
It’s a sleek device that comes up short.
there are dongles that are small that attach to the dock connector to add USB and an SD slot.
Totally, thoroughly and completely underwhelmed.
@Nick,
Dongles really? How does that help when you’re not using the dongle or your out? Apple will add most of the stuff we want with next, iPad (I feel dirty when I type that), like they do/did with the iPhone.
