PORTRAIT of “Jackson” – Nikon D3S with the 85mm f1.4lens @ ISO 6400 , 160th sec @ f2
Marcus Bell is posting some of the first “Real World” images and video from the Nikon D3S. You’ll have to scroll all the way down for the video example but he’s posted plenty of stills for us to peak at and included some 100% crops too.
All wedding images are Nikon D3s (Pre-Production) 12800 ISO – Jpeg capture
Marcus says this about the video capture…
I felt it was only a matter of time before Nikon added video capture to their professional digital camera SLR’s and its here. It’s an area of creativity we have been exploring in our photography studio over the past 2 years. I’ve posted below a mix of video and stills I took on the same wedding this last weekend.
To assist in the video capture I used the new SanDisk Extreme Pro 32gb Compact Flash card that writes up to 90 MB/s and to keep the camera as still as possible I used a Hood Loupe that enabled to have the eye piece giving add contact to the body, by Hoodman.

images look beautiful. Im looking forward to shooting with this camera in the future
Too much noise
IMHO
Too much noise ?
)))
This is 12800 ISO, noise seems to be quite moderate, crops only show the actual amount of noise, if printed, I am sure, no noise will be visible.
‘Too much noise?’
Ever remember what fast film looked like? How quickly people forget.
Sport, weddings, news, events, you name it, it’s the perfect tool for the job.
I dream of the D3! I cannot believe the quality at 12800 ISO!
Though 12,800 on the D3 and D3s are amazing compared to what we’re used to with digital cameras (and wasn’t even possible with film!) I think Oleg is saying that it has more noise than he wants in the photos he takes. This only means that Oleg will not be shooting at high ISO’s for awhile.
