I’m beginning to wonder how much pull Marcus has with Mother Nature because light like this never happens around me! Looking for some inspiration, be sure to take a few moments and click over to his website to further fuel your feelings of inadequacy as a photographer.
Simply stunning work as usual Marcus!
BTW… If you’re lucky enough to live Down-Under be sure to catch Marcus on his Australian tour this summer.

Beautiful work.
I see he’s not afraid to get the bride & groom out with umbrellas in the rain…..
Not to take away from Marcus Bell because he is an excellent photographer, no doubt about that. But insofar as that light in these images that awes you so, have you considered it could be use of the mystic light plugin for the rainbow and lighting effects? Certainly the haze is achievable in a few different ways in photoshop.
GE Marcus told me via email that the first image was “unbelievable lighting conditions” and that only a small amount of dodging and burning was done to it.
So I’m afraid the rainbow is real.
I just don’t get it. How do people follow like Jasmine Starr and Marcus Bell and Yervant around like little lost puppies paying them thousands of dollars to hear them speak? All their images are doctored in Photoshop. Very rarely do images like these come out of the camera this way. The first shot for example is completely fake. He took a landscape shot which was real then took an image of the bride and groom holding hands and shrunk them down to try and show scale. What? He actually ran a half mile away to get this shot? Wake up people. The digital age affords us with unlimited potential to turn a drab photo (which most of the “experts” take) and turn them into dramatic images. No real skill involved. Sorry.
I have met Marcus, and believe me, he has skills. I agree, many flavour of the month photocelebs don’t know what an f stop is. However, if they use a tool to create a great image, they deserve some credit. You wouldn’t complain because someone used flash. That is modifying the real scene. Why allow them to change lenses, that changes the image as well. Why allow custom prints at all, they are lies. I am a bit of a purest at heart, but we cannot draw lines for other people and tell them not to cross them to get the result they want.
Christ, the first photo is so good it makes me shiver. perfect
@joe l,
most of the vineyards here in Australia that we use for weddings have golf carts which we use to cart us and the bride n groom about their estates. Shots like this are actually part of the standard package when you book that estate for the wedding. There’s a lucky chance it’ll rain – most of the time we just get nice clear blue skys and other times we get thunder storms.. storms are fantastic for shooting in – we love it!
