Oh What A Feeling… Ripped Off!
Tisk tisk tisk… Busted! PDN Pulse reports that Toyota was featuring some photographers work on the site show above without their permission. Toyota said their sorry so that makes ok right?
Called to the carpet by a Flickr user who “noticed” a photo, it appears they may have used at least 40 images from the popular image sharing site without proper permission. While Flickr does have some Creative Commons images there are rules which must be followed and simply publishing an image on Flickr does not forfeit a photographers copyright protection. When you visit the Toyota site now all you’ll see is a spinny wheel in the image box where those “borrowed” images once lived.
Toyota apologizes for pulling images from Flickr without photographer permission. Images from a handful of photographers appeared on a Toyota site for five days. We’re working quickly to reach out to the individual photographers involved. Until then, the images have been removed, and corrections have been made to the process of pulling images from Flickr. -Toyota
Can you say whoops? Check out the full Flickr forum discussion on the matter. Maybe they’ll pull a play from the unscrupulous wedding photographer play book and just say that their web designer did it?
