You might remember Melissa from our article “The Long Road to Vegas” which highlighted her road trip from North of the border all the way  to WPPI in  Nevada earlier this year. As you can tell by the image above it was a fun trip for Melissa. Well no shenanigans on this trip, Melissa is setting out to complete what she is calling The Root Project a three month long road trip which will take her from town to town across Canada looking for,

…the most adventurous families in the country

Along the way Melissa will be documenting her adventure for us right here on the DWF blog. I look forward to living vicariously thru her and we hope you will too.

Melissa is still looking for families to “fill her dance card” so if you know of any Canucks with an adventurous side drop her an email.

( Press Release ) - May 13, 2010 – Professional photographer Melissa Welsh is embarking on a Canadian first this summer – she will be photographing the most adventurous families in the country and she wants to hear from you.

Melissa, a multi-disciplined photographer who specializes in photographing people, will leave her home in Nelson, British Columbia, later this month and travel to Newfoundland and back photographing families that hike, bike, camp, climb and paddle together.

“I was inspired by the joy and passion that playing outside brings the families in my own community of Nelson and decided on a quest to celebrate this in families across the continent,” she says.

The Root Project – the working name for the adventure – will be a legacy of photographs as a collection and as individual pieces, representing people’s love and connection to the outdoors. The intention is to have a final body of work that will include an eclectic mix of families recreating in diverse geographical areas.

“I am really excited to have the opportunity to work on a personal project this summer. Although I am shooting for myself, my ultimate goal is to create a little piece of legacy for the families that I photograph,” Melissa says. “When completed, I intend to share the collection through gallery showings and various publications.”

Melissa Welsh has been photographing weddings, families and outdoor pursuits for 12 years and her work can be found in private collections around the world as well as in regional, national and international publications including Westworld, Climbing and Explore Magazine.

If you know of a family who would like to be a part of The Root Project, please contact Melissa at 250-505-5705 or info@melissawelsh.com.
