Some rules in the hipster world are universal, and one of those rules is: If it’s vintage, then it’s authentic, which means it’s officially cool.
So what are you waiting for? Here are a few tips on upping your hipster street cred and being the most envied photographer on the block.
1. Vintage Cameras – Nothing says serious photographer like a well displayed collection of vintage cameras. That collection must have taken some serious questing rights? Traveling to yard sales, rooting through antique shops, going to auctions….. In actuality, if you go to Etsy.com, there’s a serious collection of everything from Yashica Twin Lens cameras to just about any Polaroid you could ever imagine mostly for under $150. Bonus points if you go through the process and can actually produce a few prints with your new antique toy. Fashion over function = LAME.
2. Vintage Photobooths – For around $4,000 you can be the proud owner of a 100% authentic vintage photobooth from “The Majestic“. The classic booth uses traditional chemical processes to develop the film and takes about 10 minutes produce a 4 photo strip. Definitely beats the latest issue of “Vogue” as something to entertain your clients in the lobby.
3. Hipstamatic! -(see article images for examples) This iPhone app boasts that it “brings back the look, feel, unpredictable beauty, and fun of toy plastic cameras from the past”. Dreamy colors, faded contrasts, and funky filters bring a retro look and feel to your iPhone photography.
