On the off chance that you hadn’t noticed the magazine industry is tanking! Check out our article on the Bridal Magazine Bloodbath we wrote a few weeks back. Time Inc this week has announced layoffs across their three magazine groups. Blah blah blah… so what does this have to do with me? I’m a wedding photographer!
It means that more commercial/print/news photographers are going to be dealing with a shrinking paycheck. Because if the big rags are having trouble you can rest assured the smaller and regional mags are having the same trouble. Enter the problem, photographers have cameras and must make money with them. In an already crowded wedding photography pool is there room for even a few more photogs looking for work?

And have you heard? The photography magazine of photography magazines, Playboy, is cutting circulation, too.
My day job until 8 months ago was as a System Administrator for a Commercial Printer specializing in Short Run Magazine. In the past 8 months there have been three lay offs for a total of 40+ people from an initial staff of about 190. Don’t know how much longer they will be around.
