Imaginary Bondage Picture Goes Here
(Thank me later for not including it.)
Connecticut photographer James Lipay was arrested this past Saturday and charged with sexual assault. The charges stem from a test shoot with a “Bondage” model whom he had found via the website modelmayhem.com
And while most of us (or maybe even none of us) here are shooting bondage photography anytime soon just about every photographer I know has shot boudoir, glamor or fine art nudes at some point in their career. Regardless of Mr. Lipay’s guilt or innocence this should be a reminder to all photographers showing just how important it is the have their sessions attended by a chaperon or assistant.

I always request that anyone under the age of 18 or anything that will be shot implied or nude be accompanied by someone, and I always being an assistant with me. It’s way tooo easy in this world to be accused of something for financial gain.
A couple years ago I had a young woman keep calling me for a shoot and each time, the details got stranger and stranger, more then implied, too detailed. I felt very strange about the call and just declined to do the shoot.
I later found out it was a sting operation to catch photographers trying to take advantage of young girls.
It’s sometimes a very sick world out there, I’ve heard my own clients tell me some horror stories and all you have to do is look through Model Mayhem to see that not everyone there is interested in photography or modeling.
I don’t shoot kids without a chaperon… End story.
Kids are anybody I consider a kid. . .. even if they
are over 18. Under eighteen, I require a parent to be
the chaperon.
I require positive proof of age and a signed release
before they even see a camera.
Oh, and I don’t shoot bondage..boring
Ed, for you boring, for other thrilling and exhilarating.
I don’t shoot weddings, boring. See how pretentious that sounds.
Anyway, always have a witness, and if your anything like me, have a security system in place. Amazing what an unblinking eye can do to a persons story.
You don’t know all the facts.
No one does, that is why no one is calling him a sleazebag or her a slut.
We simply do not know the facts.
The facts we do know is always have a witness.
Relax, James. I think Ed was kidding with his “boring” remark.
I always require the client to bring one adult with them if I won’t be having an assistant on a particular shoot. A hard and fast policy with no exceptions.
