Photographers have always been big users of Adobe’s Flash technology but now with the already “Flashless” iPhone and soon to be release “Flashless” Apple iPad looming could this be the final nail in the coffin for Flash as we know it? We wrote about it a week ago and this week other sites are left pondering the same thing. Is Flash on death’s door?
We wanted to know what you guys thought so we asked?
- christiantraina we will use whatever technology offers the best experience & presentation for our users. If that means Flash, then yes definitely
- SaraThomasPhoto Well I’ve just bought a BigFolio site, so, erm, yes!
- Luca_Ragogna I’m going to try to get rid of flash in my site or build an HTML Ghost site for iPhone/iPad
- alanhutchison No definitely not. I don’t want affluent iPad owning customers skipping past my site.
- RichardPress No Flash on my site ’till it can be seen on the iPhone.
- Getcolormanaged Not if there is a way to avoid it. And trust me, there will be
#flash - karenlisa most likely, yes.
- randykepple YES… Big Folio is the best in so many ways
- chriswanamaker Not until it is searchable via search engines. I would rather pepper the site with flash goodies – but no fully rely on it
- Ioan_Said yes
- jessicakempen a small amount for the gallery- other than that I am flash free
- BookerTBrown probably. But I want a secondary site that’s a HTML site.

Flash just about to be totally removed from my website following yours and other recent articles! :-/
Flash has run its course no more flash for me
I will move one day away from flash
It appears to me that web site companies are already aware of this and the concerns. Many of the top website development companies for photographers are already taking your flash site and building an html copy site behind it. Sites like ShowitSites, Livebooks, etc. I have a “flash site” from livebooks and I am in the top of yahoo and google for any local searches. I am moving to Showit in a few days for a LOT more flexibility. Since it has the same back end component of making an HTML site behind it, I feel comfortable.
Absolutely! I just created an iPhone version to my website, and most higher-end website developers should be doing the same. If your on a home computer the flash site pops up, if your on an iphone then the more compact html version pops up. Maximum user capability. Flash is amazing, Apple will jump on the train eventually.
I think the key is to have both. flash and html.
New website with no flash is being developed as I type this
Why do you need to create both, a flash and html site? If a blogsite is built correctly it should be seen on the iphone and ipad in its entirety with SEO tools built it. Plus with an integrated blog all your SEO efforts are pointing to one address. My site looks the same on an iphone as it does on my computer and you can access every gallery. No Flash!
