It is 2 am. You are surfing the net in your spare time. You run a google search, surf some more and run across an ad space selling you exactly what you google searched 10 minutes ago. Has Big Brother mounted a camera behind you? Do they know you are about to commit a thought crime?
The internet knows everything. Further proof: Chitika.
What got my attention, was an ad targeted on a search I did so far back that I got lost in a maze of pages trying to find the original query. Chitika showed me an ad for a service I already use, so well done there.
I have tried to explain Chitika to people. Just watch the video. Their clever marketing people will do a way better job of making you understand. Then come back here and we can make tin foil hats together while the internet spies watch us.
Why am I sharing this? Mostly because it creeped me out. It means that the possibilities of ad targeting are far deeper than most people realize. Great news if you are an advertiser, which many photographers are. The more targeted the ads, the better the value.♦
