Gathered here for you in one convenient post are the most heinous offenses you should not be making: the 10 Deadly Post Processing Sins. Natalie Norton’s post on Digital Photography School is geared toward the newer photographers, but don’t think that your are an exception to these rules. If you are committing any of these sins take a close look at your work and decided whether or not your transgressions are worth the cost. Look at your spot colored, heavily vignetted, textured image with the sun flare.
Post processing is not simply a digital band-aid for your capture mistakes. It isn’t a way around learning actual skills. It is a tool, and should be used as you would a scalpel, not a sledge hammer. Please read Ms. Norton’s entire post, including her disclaimer, before you go all nuts about being insulted. My disclaimer: yes, I was an offender, my vignettes were too heavy, I spot colored, I used that magical fairy glow, but I have recovered. You can, too. I am sure someone was laughing at my post-process, and now I am laughing at yours.
By this time next year you could be laughing at someone else’s.
Looking to share your thoughts on textures? DWFers are discussing them right now in a 3 page post entitled ‘Textures – Can I open my eyes? Is it over yet?“. We have a bit of fun but there is plenty of serious discussion going on. (login required for that link but trials are FREE)
