The Social Media Photography Survey 2009 has published it’s results. It turns out that the perceived business value of media lines up with the sites that create revenue opportunities. If I am translating correctly that means that the craze over social networking isn’t just a bunch of hype. People are actually using it as successfully for networking as they think they do. For those of you who aren’t using your blog to it’s potential (or at all) the photographers surveyed reported that their sites and blogs were there most valuable marketing tool followed by Facebook, Flickr, and Twitter.
They even include a Venn diagram illustrating why people use Twitter, which is great since I can’t explain it to people who don’t use it.

social media is HUGE if/when used correctly, and is an absolute waste of precious time when used incorrectly.
I think it’s super important for photographers to study/plan out what they are doing with social media before they jump in, as it can be super time intensive.
