While I, like 90% of the world, am still waiting for the iPad to go on sale here, folks down in the states have been enjoying their iPads for a while now. Long enough for a bit of the freshness to wear off. Long enough for the fabled camera connection kit to come out.

Terry White has got his hands on one, and has discovered it to be a useful, if not flashy addition to the iPad line up. And unlike the atrociously slow iPod Photo adaptor (where you couldn’t download a card bigger than 1 GB, because the battery on the iPod would die before all the images downloaded), this one actually seems moderately practical. You can even attach a card reader, instead of plugging the camera directly into the iPad (again, something you had to do with the earlier model). Even more impressive, you can edit RAW files on the iPad using programs like Photoshop Mobile.

If you’re a hater, you’re not going to have an iPad, so what’s the point of having a Camera Connection Kit. If you’re reading this blog, and you have an iPad, chances are you’re going to want to have the connector.

While you’re probably not going to be using the iPad to back up all your photos on a multi-day trip (as the iPad’s memory is only slightly larger than your typical CF card), you can use it to free up space on a card in a pinch. And when you plug the iPad back into your computer, you can sync the images onto there as well.

And the cost? Just $29.
