When I first came across this image by DWF Pro Member Lew D’Souza I instantly wanted to know more about it. Lew was kind enough to grant me a little bit of one-on-one time and answer my questions about his stunning capture.
DWF – Why is this one of your favorite images? and how well does it represent the couple?
LEW – I liked the connection between the couple in this image. The Bride and Groom appear lost in the moment and no words need to be said between them. The negative space on the left also adds an element of mystery which adds to the overall mood of the shot.
I feel that this image represents the couple well as it was captured during the First Dance and the emotion is genuine and not coached or posed.
DWF – Tell us what was going thru your mind while you made this particular capture.
LEW – I had taken a series of shots with an off-camera flash directly in the background (see image below). I decided to change my shooting angle in order to side-light them for some variety.
DWF - Can we see the unprocessed original file?
LEW - ISO3200, f6.3, 1/100. Off-camera flash on lightstand set to 1/16th power. I stopped down the lens in order to create a more interesting flare.
DWF - The post processing on this image really helps to add drama IMHO. Care to share your secret recipe?
LEW - The side-lighting really added to the mood of this shot. I wanted something romantic and timeless which came down to a choice between Black and White or Sepia. I applied the Nik Color Effects Pro “Paper Toner” filter and then used the Paint with Light action (free download from http://www.atncentral.com/download.htm) to darken the sides of the image. Simple – but very effective!
