Leica, cult film camera manufacturer and king of overpriced and under performing digital camera’s and now DSLR’s is opening it’s latest retail mecca in… wait for it… wait for it… WEST PALM FREAKING BEACH!
Yes people, West Palm Beach, not NYC or LA or any other city that comes to mind when you think about high end photography.

But seriously, perhaps Leica knows something about the coast of Florida that I don’t or maybe rent was off the hook in Miami. Regardless of their reasoning the first US location will be part of the PROshop for Photographers.
The Palm Beach Photographic Centre, one of south Florida’s leading non-profit visual arts organizations, is announcing that the Centre’s photo supply store, The Pro Shop for Photographers is partnering with Leica Camera (www.leica-camera.com), the world’s leading manufacturer and purveyor of fine photographic equipment, to open a dedicated Leica Shop-in-Shop in its new location in West Palm Beach. This will be the first Leica Shop-in-Shop to introduce the new Leica Store design to the U.S. following locations seen in Berlin, Paris and Moscow.
That makes it sound a bit more cool so if West Palm Beach is on your bucket list be sure to stop by 415 Clematis Street and visit the Leica store.

I think what Leica knows about West Palm Beach is that the recession isn’t really hitting the area all that hard (at least compared to other parts of the country). Leicas have always seemed to me to be luxury cameras (do I want one? YES! Will I ever get one? Hmm…). Also near Clematis Street is a Lotus dealership, etc. Coincidence? I think not! lol.
hmmm…. What Dslr did they make? did the digital module for their film SLRs ever come to be? I am not up on the Leicas of today – I only knew about their range finders.
Interesting… I live here in South Florida. This sounds quite unusual. We are glad to welcome them to our neighborhood. As to the specific location, I guess if someone is shopping for a Bentley, they may pick up an overpriced camera while out and about…
