DWF moderator and talented, cultured, gentleman Chris Mann has been on a quest these past few months. His company, Tropical Imaging, (also, “Brilliant”) is trying to build the greenest building in Turks and Caicos. Not just “greenest photography studio,” but “greenest building of any kind.”
Apparently the green trend hasn’t necessarily hit the islands just yet, but its got to, soon, given the ridiculous costs involved with importing energy. After a trip to the Greenbuild 2008 Expo last year, Chris was convinced going green made sense, not only ecologically but financially.
I’ve been dying to blog about his new studio for months now, but wanted to wait until they actually broke ground and could share pics of Chris’ dreams become reality to report it. Well, it’s finally happened, so hop over to the Tropical Imaging blog and check out the first pics, and subscribe to watch what we hope will be the first of many sustainable photo studios (and buildings in general).
Oh, and even if you can’t build from scratch but just want to know what you can do to green-up your business, stop by greenerphotography.org, brainchild of DWF members Thea Dodds and Dawn Tacker anytime for resources and advice!

Thanks for the blog mention, Matt!
In all honesty I should point out that it’s my brother Andy who is the driving force behind this project, not me – I’m just along for the ride!
But we hope it is going to be not only a great new location for the business but a bit of a trend-setter in encouraging other local businesses to be more eco-aware…
This is really great. Really good to hear of others looking to green up their life/ business. Renewable sources of energy make sense as the world is running out of oil and we will have to think about new ways to power our energy-guzzling lifestyles quite soon. Congratulations guys, hope that it entices other businesses to make a positive change.
